How Shadow Work Can Help You Overcome Powerlessness and Reclaim Your Strength
The goal of Shadow Work is simple: to meet the parts of ourselves that we may not be comfortable facing, acknowledge them, and accept them as equal parts of who we are. Without integrating the shadow, we remain incomplete.
When we own every part of ourselves, we unlock the potential for huge, transformational change. Think of the Phoenix—rising from its ashes. That’s the kind of shift Shadow Work can help you achieve, but it’s not an overnight process.
I bring this up because last night, I spent some time with this work. My copy of Myth & The Shadow workbook arrived, and I dove right in.
Day 1 started with this prompt:
“Reflect on a time you felt powerless.”
Immediately, I thought, Which one? Powerlessness has shown up in so many forms over the years: powerless over rumors, powerless over consequences brought on by others, powerless to speak out, fearing things would get worse, powerless over my body, my thoughts, my actions…
You know the feeling?
Then the second prompt asked: “How did you find your way back to strength?”
This one helped me reframe my experiences. Despite all the times I’d felt powerless, I found my way back to strength, resilience, and determination. I realized that, no matter how heavy it gets, the only way out is through.
Yesterday, I felt that familiar sense of powerlessness, but working through these prompts reminded me that I also know how to return to my strength. It’s always been there, waiting for me to claim it. Sometimes, all you need is to get it down on paper.
This is why we do Shadow Work.
It’s about acknowledging those parts of ourselves that we might try to hide away—the uncomfortable, the painful—and learning to integrate them. When you embrace all of you, you step into your power, into your sovereignty. You rise taller.
Shadow Work helps you uncover your wisdom and reclaim your strength so you can stand confidently in your own power.
Here are the prompts I used:
- Reflect on a time when you felt powerless.
- How did you find your way back to strength?
