Have you ever felt completely exhausted at the end of the day, despite not engaging in physically demanding activities?

You’re not alone. Many of us experience this, and the surprising culprit is often overthinking. In this blog post, I’ll delve into the hidden energy drain of mental busyness and share strategies to break the habit of overthinking.

The Hidden Energy Drain of Overthinking

A lot of conversations I’ve had this week revolve around energy and how many people feel perpetually tired. They look back on their day and think, “I did some things, but none of it equates to the level of exhaustion that I feel.” The missing link here is recognizing the extent of energy that is required when we are overthinking.

You can watch my video on this topic here.

Recognizing Mental Busyness

The first step to managing overthinking is awareness. Often, we don’t even realize we’re caught in a mental spin cycle, thinking about things that aren’t even our business.

Letting Go of Unnecessary Thoughts

Once you recognize that you’re overthinking, the next step is to let go of thoughts that are not your business to worry about. This can be incredibly freeing and can save a lot of energy.

Listening to Important Messages

Sometimes, our minds are persistently focusing on something because there’s an important message we need to hear. In these cases, it’s crucial to slow down and pay attention.

Techniques to Slow Down and Process Thoughts

To effectively manage overthinking, you can use tools like journaling or voice memos to process your thoughts. This helps in slowing down the mental spin cycle and allows you to discern whether a thought is something to let go of or something that needs your attention.

Saving Your Energy for What Matters

When you stop overthinking, you’ll have more energy for what truly matters to you. This makes life more fulfilling and allows you to focus on activities that bring you joy.
