Energy You Bring Into the Room: The Hidden Undercurrent

Years ago, when I first started personal development, I remember hearing Brendon Burchard say that you’re responsible for the energy you bring into the room.

At the time, I understood that through a pretty surface-level lens.

Positive energy.
Negative energy.
Being upbeat.
Being “high vibe.”

And for a long time, I really resonated with that version of it.

But over the years, my understanding has deepened. And now I see it very differently.

The energy we bring into the room isn’t about performance.
It isn’t about pretending.
It isn’t about putting on a good face.
It isn’t about teaching what we’ve been taught.

It’s about the energy that lives underneath the surface.

The energy that’s already there.
The energy that comes with us no matter what we’re saying, what we’re teaching, or who we’re talking to.

That’s the real energy in the room.

When the Surface Looked Fine…But the Undercurrent Wasn’t

Several years ago, I was renting office space with a few other practitioners. In the beginning, it was genuinely great. It was fun. Light. There was mutual respect. It felt like a beautiful energy to be part of.

Then a third person moved into one of the empty offices.

And the dynamic shifted.

On the surface, things stayed polite. Even pleasant. But underneath, the energy changed in a way I could feel in my system every single day.

There were strange rules about what was “allowed.”

Oracle cards were okay.
Tarot wasn’t.

And when you’re the girl who loves tarot…well, you can see where that was going.

There was condescension in the air.
A quiet superiority.
An unspoken sense of “what we do is better than what you do.”

And energetically, it was awful.

This was my first real lesson in the difference between surface energy and submerged energy.

You can look happy.
You can sound kind.
You can hit all the right spiritual notes.

And still carry something underneath that poisons a room.

Eventually, the energy became so gross that I had to GTFO.

And for a long time, I told myself I was fine.
I brushed it off.
My rational side said, “Whatever. It’s old news.”

But in truth…it got under my skin in ways I didn’t fully realize at the time.

Because even after I physically left that space, I was still hiding.

I wasn’t posting about Reiki as much.
I wasn’t as energetically excited.
I wasn’t fully owning that this is a part of me.

That it is powerful.
That it is real.
That it changes lives.

Somewhere underneath everything, I had gotten smaller.

And I now see that what those dynamics activated wasn’t just conflict with them

It activated something in me.

The Belief I Didn’t Know I Was Carrying

What I realize now is that their energy uncovered my own deeply rooted fear:

That Reiki was “less than.”
That maybe I was playing pretend.
That maybe this wasn’t real work.

I never would have said those words out loud. But they lived under the surface.

And the truth is that…

Reiki is powerful.
Reiki changes lives.
Reiki heals in ways that still take my breath away.

I’ve watched people come in for emotional heaviness… and leave without the back pain they walked in with.

I’ve watched fibromyalgia flare-ups ease while memories rise to the surface because that’s what’s ready to heal.

When one layer softens, the others follow.
Healing is a domino effect.

So yes, I do still honor the idea of being aware of the energy we bring into a room.

But I’m also grateful that those individuals weren’t aware…because their unconscious superiority cracked something open in me. It forced me to confront the Witch Wound, the hiding, the old fears around visibility.

Their behavior wasn’t a gift.
But what it revealed was.

It helped me strengthen my belief.
It made me recognize what I had feared.
It allowed me to stop trying to conform.

And now I let my freak flag fly.

If your chest feels tight for no reason, your mood dips around certain people, or you walk out of rooms feeling drained instead of yourself…Reiki clears the things talking under the surface. When you’re ready for relief, I’d love to support you.
