How to Cut Energetic Cords and Protect Your Energy
In today’s fast-paced, interconnected world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, drained, or emotionally entangled in situations that don’t serve your highest good. Whether it’s a challenging relationship, an exhausting job, or even a negative thought pattern, we often carry invisible, energetic connections—known as cords—that can leave us feeling stuck and depleted.
Welcome to another episode of Wisdom Within! Today, Tina and I are exploring the practice of cord cutting, a powerful ritual to reclaim your energy, set healthy boundaries, and free yourself from unwanted attachments.
What Are Energetic Cords?
Energetic cords are invisible connections that form between people, places, or even beliefs through emotional or energetic exchanges. These cords are like energetic pathways that link us to the things we invest our time and energy into, both consciously and unconsciously.
We can form cords with family members, friends, co-workers, and even strangers. These cords allow for an exchange of energy, but sometimes that energy isn’t reciprocated or becomes overwhelming. Think of it as a two-way connection: some cords may be healthy and supportive, but others can be draining or even toxic.
As Tina puts it, “We tend to send out pieces of ourselves, sometimes unknowingly, to others. But by cutting those cords, we allow ourselves to call our energy back and protect our personal power.”
Signs You Might Need to Cut Cords
If you’re feeling drained, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in repetitive thought patterns, you may be holding onto energetic cords that no longer serve you. Some common signs include:
- Feeling emotionally or physically drained after interacting with certain people
- Experiencing recurring thoughts or emotions tied to past events or relationships
- Difficulty moving forward in life or breaking free from old habits
- Sensing an unhealthy attachment to a situation or person
Energetic cords can form even with people or situations we’re no longer actively engaged with. That’s why cord cutting is such a powerful practice—to help release these lingering attachments and restore your energy to where it belongs: with you.
Cord-Cutting Rituals to Try
1. Daily Cord Cutting with Archangel Michael
One of the simplest and most effective ways to cut cords is to call on Archangel Michael. Known for his protective energy and ability to clear negative attachments, Archangel Michael can help you release any cords that are no longer serving your highest good.
At the end of the day, as you prepare for sleep, take a few moments to visualize Archangel Michael standing by your side, holding a radiant sword of light. Ask him to cut any energetic cords that are draining your energy or holding you back. As he cuts them, imagine those cords dissolving and being transmuted into healing light.
2. The Candle Ritual
This powerful ritual uses the symbolism of fire to release energetic attachments. To begin, you’ll need two candles, one to represent you and the other to represent the person, situation, or behavior you’re cutting ties with.
Light both candles and tie a string between them. As you set your intention to release the cord, allow the candles to burn, watching as the string eventually ignites and burns away. This represents the cord being severed. Once the ritual is complete, feel the freedom that comes from being unattached to the draining energy.
Tina shared her experience with this ritual, saying, “I recently did a cord-cutting with two candles, and when the string burned through, I could feel the energy shift. It was like a weight had been lifted, and I knew I was free from that connection.”
3. Fire Visualization
If you’re looking for a quick, effective method, try a fire visualization. Close your eyes and picture a blazing fire or a dragon’s flame cutting through any energetic cords that are weighing you down. Visualize the fire clearing away any lingering energy and healing the places where the cords were attached, leaving you feeling lighter and more empowered.
Why Cord Cutting Is Empowering
Cord cutting is more than just a spiritual ritual; it’s a way of reclaiming your personal power. When you cut cords, you are setting energetic boundaries, protecting your energy, and allowing yourself to fully show up in your life. As Projectors in Human Design like myself know, maintaining your energetic health is crucial to living in alignment.
But remember, cord cutting isn’t about cutting ties with people entirely—it’s about releasing the attachments that no longer serve you. Sometimes, we need to keep certain relationships in our lives, but we can set boundaries around what energies we allow in.
As I mentioned in the episode, “Just because you cut a cord doesn’t mean you’re cutting someone out of your life—it means you’re setting a boundary and protecting your own energy in a way that benefits both of you.”
When Should You Cut Cords?
Cord cutting can be a regular practice in your spiritual and energetic hygiene routine. You don’t have to wait until you’re feeling completely burned out to cut cords. Here are some ideal times to practice cord cutting:
- After a particularly draining day
- Following a difficult conversation or interaction
- When you notice recurring negative thoughts or emotions
- Before or after big life transitions
Final Thoughts
Energetic cords form naturally as we go about our lives, but not all cords are meant to stay. By practicing cord cutting, you can protect your energy, release unwanted attachments, and step more fully into your power.
Remember, you don’t need anyone else’s permission to cut cords—you’re in control of your own energy. If you’re ready to stop feeling drained and start feeling empowered, try one of the cord-cutting rituals we discussed and reclaim your energy today.
